Skipping Stones

Skipping Stones

Recently, I was at a dam, and the weather was perfectly still—ideal conditions for skipping stones. The challenge of skipping stones isn’t the act itself but finding the perfect stone. It should be smooth, flat, yet somewhat round. This can be quite a task. Determined to find the right stone, I walked up and down the water’s edge, scanning over all the stones but finding none suitable. After about 10 minutes, I decided to slow down and carefully examine the stones right under my feet. In this small area, I must have found five perfect stones ideal for skimming. All it took was slowing down a bit. This is often true in life, whether we’re searching for love, money, a career, or something else. We frequently ask God for help with these searches, yet we tend to speed up and stress out. Psalm 46:10 advises, “Be still, and know that I am God.” When we struggle to find what we’re looking for, the answer isn’t to speed up. But rather, be still. Let go, and let God.
