“Follow me. I will show you”, the boy says to us. We are on the Mount of Olives looking for the Church of the Ascension. He leads us through an increasingly dodgy maze of roads. When we express our concern, he replies, “No. just follow me.” It’s then that we hear him whistle, and answering whistles respond from up ahead. We know this isn’t good, and so we turn and run, followed by shouts and a hail of stones. Who we choose to follow makes a huge difference in where we end up. In the story of Ruth, after her husband dies, she says to her mother-in-law Naomi, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” (Ruth 1:16). Naomi is from another country, and worships a God Ruth doesn’t yet know. Yet, despite this, she knows that Naomi will lead her the right way. And as it turns out, Ruth ends up marrying Boaz, and the miracle is that her descendant is Jesus. Her commitment to following the right example made her a relative of the son of God. Jesus calls you to follow him, and responding to him will make you a relative of the son of God (Matthew 12:50). Who you follow determines where you end up. Open Bible – https://bit.ly/rut1v16, https://bit.ly/mat12v50
