Empty Vessels

Empty Vessels

Ever heard the saying, “Empty vessels make the most noise”? This concept is rooted in the message of Proverbs 18:2, which reads, “Fools find no pleasure in understanding, but delight in airing their own opinions”. What is understanding, you may ask? The answer to that also lies in Proverbs 9:10, where we read, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” We are reminded that true understanding is rooted in God, the Creator, and not just defined by us, His Creation. Therefore, we should not only delight in airing our own opinions, which are often shaped by impulse and emotion but rather find pleasure in seeking wisdom in the Word of God and getting to know Jesus – who is the way, the truth, and the life. As Jesus answered the Samaritan woman at the well, “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” Let us be encouraged to seek understanding and the truth God has given us through His Word.
