“Happy New Year”. There is something so wonderful about new starts. It lets us set new goals and plans. “This year, I will get fit”. And so off we go for a walk. However, a few days later, we decide just to take a little break, and it’s more standing looking outside than walking. And after a few more days’ break, we sit on our couches. This is the exact sequence that the Psalmist begins the Psalms with. It is a picture of someone who “walks in the way of the wicked”, and then as they slide down this slope, they “stand in the way that sinners take”, until finally they “sit in the company of mockers” (Psalm 1:1). Just a little bit of bad always ends up in the same place. Rather, the psalmist says, blessed are those “whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditate on his law day and night” (Psalms 1:2). This is the way to true change and success in life. Delighting, or taking pleasure in God and His Word. Not just for a day or two at the start of our year, but day and night, every day. Set this as your goal. A daily commitment to meditating on God’s Word and you will experience a delight greater than any other commitment you can make. “This year, I will delight in God!” Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Psa1v1-2 (Craig B)
