We recently watched a documentary series on the life of Arnold Schwarzenegger. His achievements were amazing – from winning the Mr Universe bodybuilder title several times, to top movie star, to Governor of the State of California. When asked how he achieved all this success, he replied that he was always hungry, and this pushed him. However, when being interviewed at the age of 75, he was living alone. His wife divorced him when she discovered he had a child with their housekeeper. Somehow, all that success left him not at the pinnacle of life but alone in a large empty home. Solomon shared these words of wisdom many millennia ago. “So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; It takes away the life of its owners.”(Proverbs 1:19). If we make it our life’s ambition to be greedy for more worldly things – the top company position, the best house, wealth so I can buy any luxury – If this becomes our focus and not the pursuit of God, we are told what will happen – “It takes away the life of its owners”. However, if we make God our pursuit and seek Him above all else, He promises to fill every day with His wisdom, love, peace, and guidance. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33).
