“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free” (Luke 4:18). What is God’s calling for you? God calls all of us for a purpose—to make a difference in the world. Like people in the Bible, most were ordinary individuals. But God can turn ordinary people into extraordinary ones. However, like Jonah, we want a calling that isn’t uncomfortable. We even bargain with God, wanting a calling that fits our path. It’s only when we leap with faith into the unknown that miracles happen. Then, we find the way already prepared by God. He calls us to impact lives in this broken world. As Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few” (Matthew 9:37). However, we often are too busy to listen to God, using busyness as a smokescreen. How do I listen? By combining God’s resources with our gifts, He will use us beyond our expectations. Be still before God. Listen in the quiet. Take the risk, and heed His calling.
