God of power

God of power

If you’ve ever experienced a summer thunderstorm in the Drakensberg, you’ll know its immense power. The heat of a lightning strike—five times hotter than the surface of the sun—causes the air to expand explosively, creating the thunder we hear. In Psalm 29, David uses this imagery to describe the unmatched power of God’s voice. It shakes the desert, rumbles through mountains, and thunders over mighty waters. If thunder leaves us in awe, how much greater must God’s power be, thunder being only a faint reflection of His might. Surely, He is worthy of all glory and praise. This psalm also reminds us of God’s mighty voice revealed as the Word, Jesus, through whom, “The LORD will give strength unto his people; The LORD will bless his people with peace” (Psalm 29:11).
