Deadly reflections

Deadly reflections

The other day, I heard a thud. On investigating, I found a dead dove. The poor bird had flown into our glass sliding door, likely deceived by the morning light reflecting the vlei beyond. A tragic mistake. As I picked up the dove and placed it in the bush, I was reminded of how fragile life is and how dangerous illusions can be. Our world is full of them—social media distorting reality, the media shaping biased perceptions, celebrities portraying false success. Many chase these illusions, only to find themselves lost, wounded, or worse. The Bible warns us about this: “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4). These distractions blind us to the only true reality—God. Instead, let us follow the call of faith: “Fix your eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).
