You are about to call a friend; or make a decision about a personal matter; or head to work, school, or university. What is the first thing you do? In Colossians 3:17, we read, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” The Greek word for “word” is “logos”, and it means what we say (including the thought) and also our reasoning or motive. The word “deed” is the Greek word “ergon” and includes our work, efforts or occupation. God is encouraging us to do all things in Jesus’ name – to pray for his wisdom for the way and day ahead. And when the conversation is over or the work day is done, to “give thanks to God the Father through him”. We should start every word and action in prayer, and we should end every word and action in thanksgiving. Prayer and Prayer are the parentheses of every action, every decision, and every day for God’s children. Making prayer your parentheses will result in you fully experiencing a life where with gratitude, you can declare each new day; “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”(Philippians 4:13).
