Are you disconnected?

Are you disconnected?

What happens if you disconnect from God? Quite simply, you suffer and die. This is the message of the opening story of the Bible. God blessed humans with a purpose – “God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:22). However, Adam and Eve chose a different route. Seeing the fruit on the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden, they desired to have it. And so Eve “took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it” (Genesis 3:6). The result was immediate shame followed by suffering and, ultimately, death. By taking the fruit they were disconnecting the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. This was now knowledge disconnected from God – knowledge removed from the divine source. And the result was and still is suffering and death. The worst thing we can do is attempt to achieve our divine purpose disconnected from God. This is a certain route to suffering and death. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
