A stone too large

A stone too large

When Mary and the other women came to the tomb of Jesus they were in great despair. Jesus, the one they had believed to be their Messiah, had been crucified. Now, in a final act, they went to complete the burial customs as a farewell. But on top of their grief was an impossible problem, the huge rock blocking the tomb entrance, far beyond their ability to solve. “And they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”” (Mark 16:3). Despair and an impossible task, every reason to feel defeat. Yet, in faith, they went and witnessed the greatest miracle of human history. “But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away” and an angel says “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here.” (Mark 16:4-6). In life we too face moments of despair, an immovable stone before us and seeming hopelessness beyond it. Yet if we step forward in faith, not knowing who will remove the stone, God will work his miracles. Whatever your stone, walk in faith, and watch God at work in your life.
