Leaving some for others

Leaving some for others

My daughter has always been super kind to an ever-starving dad by intentionally leaving some leftovers from her meal for me—a small but meaningful act of love that she now continues with her husband. This simple gesture reflects a biblical principle established by God thousands of years ago: “When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the LORD your God” (Leviticus 23:22). It’s a principle worth reflecting on in our own lives. What are the edges that I am leaving for others? Do I set aside some of my money to help those in need? Do I use all my time and energy on myself, only to collapse into bed exhausted, or do I intentionally leave room to serve others? It’s easy to reap our full harvest, consuming all our resources for ourselves, but God calls us to always leave something behind for others. It’s the practical outworking of the divine law to “Love your neighbour.” Today, consider how you can share the blessings God has given you with those around you.
