More is less. We are relatively new to off-the-grid, in-the-wilds-of-Africa camping. So when we planned a three week trip with our rooftop tent, we tried to make sure we had packed everything we would need. Seems good? Well, not really because with having so much we ended up never able to find anything and only using a few of the same items the whole time. And this is how life is. More is less – less is more. Those with many possessions end up with no time to enjoy them. Yet those with less seem to have more time to live. Solomon reflected on this after trying an experiment – “I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good.”” (Ecclesiastes 2:1). He then goes and acquires everything money can buy. And at the end of it he says, “When I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 2:11). “So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.” (1 Timothy 6:8). Less is more.
