The best friend

The best friend

“Say to wisdom, ‘You are my sister,’ and call insight your intimate friend” (Proverbs 7:4). Solomon is pleading with his son to pay full attention to wisdom and understanding for his safety and success. Without it, he is likely to be tempted into all manner of sin that will lead to his ruin! Just as we care for our own family, so should we cherish God’s wisdom and understanding. We read in James, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5). So, we have a father who is willing and wanting to provide us with the guidance and insight we need to navigate life’s challenges. In a world filled with distractions and temptations, we can so easily slip into the trap of prioritizing worldly knowledge and desires over the wisdom and understanding that God offers us. But the wise man pleads with us not to let these become our focus but rather to honour and value God’s wisdom and understanding above all else. So, let us make a conscious effort to seek God’s wisdom and understanding every day so that we can experience the peace, joy, blessings, and safety that come from a mind and heart filtered by God’s wisdom and understanding.
