Downhill steps

Downhill steps

In Nehemiah 9:17, we read Israel forsook God in six life-altering steps. See if you can spot them. “They refused to obey, and they were not mindful of Your wonders that You did among them. But they hardened their necks, and in their rebellion, they appointed a leader to return to their bondage. But You are God, Ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in kindness, and did not forsake them.” Are we in danger of following these same six steps?

  1. Refusing to obey God
  2. Not mindful of God’s wonders
  3. Becoming proud and stubborn
  4. Rebelling
  5. Choosing human leaders before God
  6. Returned to bondage

When we follow these steps, we experience a life of bondage – bondage to sin that God wants to rescue us from. The door into his Kingdom and everlasting peace and rest is always open. In the same verse, God shares five amazing qualities of who He is;

  1. Ready to forgive our sins
  2. Gracious and merciful
  3. Slow to anger
  4. Abundant in Kindness
  5. Will never forsake you

Let us leave the bondage of this world and turn our hearts to our Heavenly Father forever.
