Fellow-ship

Fellow-ship

“Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep” (Acts 13:36). What a wonderful testimony to David’s life. It says he had “served God’s purpose”. We are all called to live out God’s purpose in our lives. A purpose where we are spiritually fruitful and multiplying. Where we develop and share divine love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Interestingly, it says David “served” God’s purpose. The Greek word “served” originally referred to an “under-rower” or someone who rowed in the lower tier of a trireme (an ancient Greek warship). This was a position of service and subordination, as the rowers worked under the direction of a higher authority. This is how we truly serve God’s purpose. We live life under His authority, and we row with others. Our purpose is to live guided by God and helping our neighbour – our fellow rowers. We are in a fellowSHIP – one where we row together, below deck, while God steers the course towards his ultimate goal of filling the earth with his glory.
