Patterns of the times

Patterns of the times

Reality reveals itself to us in patterns. This is true in both the natural and spiritual. Wisdom teaches us to identify patterns from learning and experience. We learn the patterns of our local weather. When the wind blows from a specific direction and clouds begin to gather, we know it will rain soon. The better we get at learning the patterns of the natural world, the more effective we become. But what about spiritual patterns? The Bible is full of spiritual patterns. The more we learn and experience its wisdom, the more the patterns are revealed. Jesus summarised many patterns of truth: “Ask and you will receive. Knock, and the door will be opened. Seek and you will find” (Matthew 7:7). But Jesus also gave a warning. “You have a saying that goes, ‘Red sky at night, sailor’s delight; red sky at morning, sailors take warning.’ You find it easy enough to forecast the weather—why can’t you read the signs of the times?” (Matthew 16:2-3). It would be foolish if we could discern the patterns of nature but not the patterns of spiritual truth. Open Bible – http://bit.ly/Mat16v2-3, http://bit.ly/mat7v7 (Matthew B)
