The saying “water under the bridge” offers an interesting biblical lesson. At its core, it refers to two people moving past a disagreement or problem. The relationship between them is the bridge, while the issue is the water flowing away beneath it. Whether this process succeeds depends on the strength of the bridge you’ve built. A strong bridge can withstand almost anything, while even a tiny stream might sweep away a weak one. Proverbs 18:24 says, “There are friends who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.” Make sure the bridges you build with others have strong foundations that endure, no matter what challenges arise. If you have weak bridges with people in your life, take steps to strengthen them—that’s what real friends do. It’s never too late to work on these connections, and the rewards of maintaining strong, lasting relationships are far greater than allowing them to be washed away.
