Have you ever lent money to God? I know that sounds crazy. How can we lend money to God when everything is his? The entire universe. Even our money is his. So, it’s ridiculous to ask this question. But, the wise writer of Proverbs tells us that we can actually lend money to God. “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done” (Proverbs 19:17). That’s a crazy thought! By giving to the poor, God is telling us we are actually lending the money to God. And God’s repayment is just incredible. “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap” (Luke 6:38). God’s repayment is immeasurably more than we can imagine. God’s repayment is his promise to “meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Will you be kind to the poor? Will you lend money to God?
